17th century timber frame restoration in Malvern

This is a 17th century property set at the foot of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire.
It was crumbling into the ground due to rotten timber and improper use of modern day materials We restored it back to health by removing all of the rotten
timber and raising the sole plates out of the ground.

We had to cut new tenons onto all downright timber in position, then put new mortices into the new sole plate and join them traditionally using oak pegs

Here is just one joint in the top of the corner post - all by hand using traditional tools

We rebuilt the entire corner of the house and replaced the gable end complete with new oak feature window to overlook the beautiful Malvern hills

The entire side of the house is held up with steel and props while we remove the foundations

A happy Jacob to see that all the heaviest timbers are in place - the corner post alone weighed in at just under a quarter of a ton
Handmade oak windows

These windows were all made by hand in our workshop in Barton under Needwood. These particular windows were all for the house above.
